1. What are cookies?

Cookies and similar technologies (local storage, session storage) are small files or identifiers stored on your device when you visit a website or use a web application. They help the service remember you, keep you signed in, and understand how the product is used so we can improve it.

2. How we use cookies

We use a small number of cookies and similar technologies, grouped into three categories.

2.1 Strictly necessary (Essential / Authentication)

These are required for the platform to function and cannot be switched off.

PurposeTechnologyNotes
Authenticated session managementSupabase session token (HTTP-only cookie or local storage)Keeps you signed in; expires at session end or after inactivity
Security tokens (CSRF protection)Short-lived cookiesPrevent cross-site request forgery

2.2 Preference / Functional

These remember choices you have made so you do not have to repeat them.

PurposeTechnologyNotes
UI preferences (e.g., sidebar state, selected project)Browser local storageStored client-side only; not sent to our servers

2.3 Analytics

We use PostHog (us.posthog.com) to understand how users navigate the platform so we can improve it. Our PostHog configuration captures page views only:

  • Pages and features visited and navigation paths
  • Browser type, device type, and general location (country/region level)
  • Session duration and error events

We have disabled autocapture (we do not automatically log every click or form interaction) and disabled session recording/replay (we do not record screen activity within the app). PostHog is a sub-processor listed at /subprocessors. Data may be processed in the United States under PostHog's privacy programme.

3. What we do not use

  • Advertising or retargeting cookies
  • Third-party tracking pixels for behavioural advertising
  • Fingerprinting technologies
  • Session recording/replay or click-level autocapture

4. Consent

Volt26 operates from New Zealand, which does not impose an EU-style cookie-consent mandate. We therefore do not display a consent banner, and none is required for the limited, privacy-respecting cookies described above. Strictly necessary cookies are always set so that the platform can function and keep you signed in.

You remain in control: you can opt out of analytics and manage or block cookies at any time using your browser controls (see below), including a Do-Not-Track signal where your browser supports it.

5. How to control cookies

You can manage cookies through your browser:

  • Chrome: Settings → Privacy and security → Cookies and other site data
  • Firefox: Settings → Privacy & Security → Cookies and Site Data
  • Safari: Settings → Privacy → Manage Website Data
  • Edge: Settings → Cookies and site permissions

Note: disabling essential cookies will prevent you from signing in.

You may also opt out of PostHog analytics directly at https://posthog.com/privacy.

6. Retention

CategoryRetention
Session cookiesDeleted when you close your browser
Persistent auth tokensLimited lifetime; expire after a set period or on inactivity
Analytics data (PostHog)Governed by PostHog's data retention settings and our sub-processor agreement

7. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the platform evolves. Material changes will be notified via the application or by email. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision.
